Kirsty Howells, Health Care Worker at Morriston Hospital, wanted to do something in memory of her grandmother Shirley Rees who died recently at Morriston Hospital. She chose Ty Olwen as her Nana had been under our care and had always said how kind and caring everyone was. She arranged a Fundraising Night at the Pontardulais Workingmen’s Club near to her home and raised £1720 which she recently presented to Ty Olwen Trust Chair, Helen Murray.
Family Room Gifts
I was so thrilled today when I visited Ty Olwen and popped into the family room and found a complete family – Grandparents, parents and grandchildren sitting around enjoying quality time together. Children playing happily, baby on mother’s knee and conversation between the adults. They were all so happy and expressed what a wonderful space this was.
Not so long ago Amy Bendle and Katie Owen and her daughter Paige came to Ty Olwen with items for the children’s gift bags and Paige also donated some of her own toys, games and books for the children’s area.
Pictured with Clinical Nurse Specialist Debra Dicks are Amy, Katie and Paige and also Paige putting some toys away in the play area.
Morriston Golf Club
Mr. Terry Beynon retiring Captain and Mr. Matthew Hollis Golf Professional at Morriston Golf Club visited Ty Olwen recently to present a donation of £1,000 which Mr. Beynon had raised during his Captaincy year. They are pictured with Miss Delyth Gough, Trustee and Unit Receptionist and Mrs Helen Murray, Chairman.
Enterprise
The Chairman was delighted to visit Enterprise Car Rental in Cwmbwrla to receive a donation of £1,000.00 from Mr. Joe Walsh, Area Manager. Mr. Walsh successfully applied to the Jack Taylor Foundation and was delighted to make the presentation. Also pictured are Mark Jenkins, Manager at Merthyr and Swansea Managers Emily Howell and Chris Rogers.
Sensory Cushions and Twiddle Mitts
Staff Nurse Karren Roberts is pictured accepting a further 2 Sensory Cushions for use in the Hospice. The cushions were loving made by Mum and Daughter Nicola and Emily Parkins. The cushions offer a distraction from stresses and frustrations and help individuals to focus, relax and also aid to promote their sense of well being by encouraging stimulation.
Thank you to Mrs Carol Bowen for making and donating “Twiddle Mitts” to Ty Olwen – 50 given already and another 50 on the way! The mitts are given to patients who may be suffering from stress and anxiety and are proven to help to calm them without the need for sedation. Carol’s generous gift will enable the Ty Olwen team to use the mitts in the Hospice, in Patient’s homes and in hospital. As you can see the brightly coloured mitts have buttons and ribbons attached on the outside and this is replicated within the mitt.
