DVLA 2019

DVLA 2019 Update.

We had the pleasure of visiting the DVLA for the last time early in January to receive the cheque representing 12 months hard work and generosity by so many people. Thank you to each and everyone who has donated in any way (and not only financially), the Sports and Social Club Staff who kept the books in order, the CHOC Reps who all did a fantastic job and not forgetting Leanne who drove everything for most of the year. Everything you have done has and will continue to make a huge difference to Ty Olwen.

And the final figure was £62,033-45.

What an incredible year for Ty Olwen 2019 was. The words “Thank you” seem totally inadequate.

What a treat we had last night at the DVLA Choir “Tunes for Ty Olwen” Annual Concert. We were entertained with a wide variety of music performed with joy and gusto and also an opportunity for individual members of the choir to showcase their incredible talent. Well done to Emily and all the girls, comperes, accompanist, support and technical staff for a brilliant evening topped off with a guest appearance from Mal Pope.

The Heads of Group have created the three sites challenge to raise money and awareness for Ty Olwen.

Ty Olwen care for patients suffering from life limiting illnesses. While they cannot offer a cure for patients, the specialist palliative and, in some cases, end of life care Ty Olwen provides is all about improving quality of life to ensure they are pain free, comfortable and peaceful for as long as they need it.

All money kindly donated will go directly to Ty Olwen.

Tŷ Olwen chosen as DVLA’s Charity of Choice

DVLA staff in Swansea are gearing up for a jam-packed year of fundraising for Tŷ Olwen after choosing them as their Charity of Choice for 2019.

Activities for Tŷ Olwen have already kicked off. A new staff rambling group will take on a challenging hike each month to raise money for the charity, which provides palliative care services for people in Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot. Other plans include a summer football tournament and climbing Ben Nevis, as well as cake sales, raffles and many other activities through the course of the year.

On hearing the news, Helen Murray MBE, Tŷ Olwen Trust Chairman, said:

The whole team at Tŷ Olwen are thrilled that we have been chosen to be DVLA’s charity of choice this year.

Whilst Tŷ Olwen cannot offer a cure, we can offer a good quality of life for patients, along with compassionate end of life care when the time comes.

Our patients are cared for either in Tŷ Olwen itself, in their own homes or on the wards of local hospitals. This partnership will help to ensure that this vital care can continue and we look forward to working with the DVLA in the year to come.

Julie Lennard, DVLA Chief Executive, said:

Raising £250,000 is an incredible milestone to have reached. I’m extremely proud of our staff who continually rise to the challenge and give so much of their own time to raise money for our nominated charities.

I have no doubt that together with Tŷ Olwen we can make a big difference and I’m delighted that we’ll be supporting this fantastic charity in 2019.
