With Christmas just a few weeks away, the Chairman and Secretary were delighted to attend a Fashion Show recently in Blanco’s Hotel in Port Talbot put on by Maude’s Fashion House. The title of the show “Christmas in New York” transported the audience to Christmas, New York and beyond. Thank you to everyone who supported the event.
Our President, Mrs. Margaret Bartlett, made a welcome return visit to Loughor Workingmen’s Club recently to thanks the members for yet another donation, this time of £500 raised through a recent raffle. The Club have been supporting Ty Olwen since 2011 and have raised in excess of £6,000 for us. Pictured presenting the cheque are Les Davies, Secretary, and Iain Murray, Chairman.
Our thanks go to Mr Aubrey Jones, retired Window Cleaner, who in spite of being unwell himself, organised a concert for Ty Olwen in Brighton Road Workingmen’s Club and raised £600 for us. Pictured receiving the donation from Aubrey is Miss Kate Murray, Secretary of Ty Olwen Trust, along with Ann Howells, Secretary of the Brighton Road Club, and Aubrey’s friends Mathew Williams, Gareth Milne and Brian Hughes.
Toyoda Gosei continue to organise events for Ty Olwen, who are their chosen Charity for this year. The Chairman is pictured with Mr Steve Green, site manager, receiving a cheque for £2009.09. 13 members of the HR department ran in the Swansea 10K run and raised over £1,000.00 between them and the staff enjoyed a Family Funday at the plant in August.

A warm welcome awaited the Chairman and Secretary last Sunday as they attended service at St. Peter’s Church, Pontardawe, and were presented with a donation of £550 which had been raised during a Coffee Morning. Presenting the cheque to the Chairman is Parishioner, Christine Biston, who said “that the Church was delighted to support Ty Olwen again this year knowing that the money they had raised would being going to a local charity and be used to help patients and families”.
We were delighted to welcome Martin Mahoney and his son Paul and Paul’s friend Jonathon Porter to Ty Olwen recently and to accept their donation of £2,672.00 raised through sponsorship when they ran the Cardiff Half Marathon earlier in the month. This incredible amount takes the total raised by Martin and his family and friends since 2102 to an incredible £10,153.00. Martin, Paul and Jonathan dedicated the race this year to the memory of Martin’s Mother-in Law Muriel who was a great friend to us here in Ty Olwen and a true supporter of Martin and all his fundraising efforts.
The Chairman was delighted to attend the Graigfelin Community Centre recently to receive a donation of £500 from the members of LILL (Leisure in Later Life) and GRIA (Graigfelin Residents in Action) clubs who had organised a really successful Fun Day in August for Ty Olwen.
For the third year in a row, volunteers at the Charity Shop at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Gendros have made a presentation to Ty Olwen. Each year they raise money for us through Coffee mornings, Cake Sales and Raffles, along with some generous individual donations. This year Rosa and her team presented £1900 to Ty Olwen Vice Chairman Paul Murray bringing their total to £4956. Thank you everyone for your support.
What a huge privilege and delight it was for the Chairman to visit Ellis Jack Gerry recently to collect his donation of £100. Ellis who is nine and three quarter year old, a pupil of Central Junior School, Port Talbot, recently undertook the ‘22 day push up challenge’ which has been the latest craze doing the rounds on Facebook and raise money for Ty Olwen. His Mum, Lynne, gave up sweets, cakes and crisps to encourage and support him.
