Thank you to Mr Colin Griffiths for sending in this photograph of the gardens at the unit taken on a recent visit to Ty Olwen. Thank you to our volunteer gardeners for all they do towards making Ty Olwen such a special place for patients and staff alike,
Inner Wheel Club of Mumbles
Jean Griffiths, President of the Inner Wheel Club of Mumbles visited Ty Olwen along with members of the club to present a cheque for £1,100, the proceeds of a coffee morning held in Mumbles. After visiting the Unit they went out into the gardens which are looking good at the moment thanks to the volunteer gardeners.
Thank you to all who attended the coffee morning in support of the Inner Wheel Club and Ty Olwen.
Spencer Morgan Jewellers Donations
Thank you to Mr Spencer Morgan, his staff and customers of Spencer Morgan Jewellers in Oxford St, Swansea for their continued generous donations to Ty Olwen through a collecting box. Most of the donations are in lieu of minor repairs carried out by Mr Morgan in his workshop and an invitation to make a donation to Ty Olwen. They have donated over £1400 in the last few years!
Tom Goss
Thomas (Tom) has raised over £1000 so far and with 3 weeks before leaving for Africa is hoping to get up to £1500 before he goes. Please support this remarkable young man if you can. He is holding the advertised event on Friday 14th June or you can donate on www.justgiving/ThomasGoss

The ‘Cwtch’
Thank you to Martin Mahoney, Volunteer, for pictures of the ‘cwtch’ in the gardens at Ty Olwen. This part of the garden had become overgrown and forgotten and was identified as an area which could be developed for people to go for peace, quiet and ‘time out’. Last year a generous gift enabled it to be fenced in and the clearance began. What a truly amazing transformation of an area this is, which will become a major benefit to patients, their families and staff.
Boots Gift
We reported last year of the sad death of Christine Bendle an employee of Boots in the Quadrant and how friends had done a sponsored walk (with a Monkey theme) in her memory. Today Elaine Jones and Suzanne Miles represented Boots and visited Ty Olwen, along with Christine’s husband Paul, to present a cheque for a further £500 in her memory.
We are so grateful to the many individuals and organisations who continue to raise and donate money to Ty Olwen.
Tough Mudder Event!
In April 2000 my father Stephen passed away in Morriston hospital after a brief battle with cancer; and had received excellent care and service from Tŷ Olwen in his final weeks of life. In May 2012 I was very pleased to be able to nominate Tŷ Olwen for a £1,000 donation from my employer – Crédit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank. My family and I remain very grateful to Tŷ Olwen for the support we received all those years ago. With this in mind, a team of 5 friends and I are competing in a Tough Mudder event to raise money for Tŷ Olwen and also Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres. Tough Mudder events take place around the world and involve a half marathon peppered with 25 obstacles designed by British Special Forces every half a mile. We’ll be fighting our way through mud, fire, ice-water and 10,000 volts of electricity in the UK South event near Winchester on Saturday 8 June 2013.

Any promotion or support you can provide will be greatly appreciated. The Charities Trust will forward you the funds raised following the event, and I will send through some photos of us competing in case you want to use them on your website.
Kind regards,
John Dunster
