You’re never too young to support Ty Olwen

Thank you to Karren for organising yet more fundraising and publicity for Ty Olwen and especially Emily Roberts who manned the stall at a recent Craft Fayre at the Forge Fach Community Hub in Clydach. It was a great success and thank you to everyone who supported them in any way.

Roy’s Runners

Matthew and Sharon two of our wonderful Ty Olwen Staff were delighted to welcome Jen Croucher to Ty Olwen and our ‘old friend’ Martin Mahoney. Jen ran the Admiral Swansea Bay 10K run in memory of her father Roy Brain. Roy was a devoted family man and loved spending special occasions with Margaret his wife of 53 years, three children, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered from the Ford Motor company where he worked for 27 years and of course in the community where they ran the family newsagents in Robert St, Manselton.  Martin ran his 13th Cardiff Half Marathon, his 6th for Ty Olwen, and together they presented a cheque for £2065 in memory of Roy. We were also delighted to welcome Julia with Martin and the newest addition to the Mahoney family, grandaughter Anaiyah

Chelsea’s 10K Run

It was a pleasure to welcome Chelsea Edwards to Ty Olwen this morning when she presented a cheque for £400 to Lisa and Grant. Chelsea emailed earlier in the year to say she wanted to raise money for us in memory of her grandfather and said ” My late grandfather was in your care at the end of last year who sadly passed away on boxing day. My family and I are so grateful of the care he received by the staff at Ty Olwen, it was truly amazing and we cannot thank the staff enough for everything that they did for him; it was very comforting knowing that he was in safe, caring hands.” Chelsea ran the Swansea Admiral 10K last month. Thank you Chelsea and all who sponsored you.

Skydiving Tribute to a much loved Bamps!

Kate and Rachel Taylor and Sarah Green have raised £2150 for Ty Olwen in memory of Eric Batchelor who spent six weeks with us earlier this year before going home to be looked after by his loving family and an army of care professionals. The girls said that whilst in Ty Olwen “He experienced the best care possible and all the staff treated him with dignity and fed him with lots of treats!”. He returned nine weeks later and “was welcomed back into the fold like returning to the family home and cared for so well again”. Thank you ladies and to your sponsors and supporters including customers at Lloyds Pharmacy on Sway Rd and Boots Optician customers in Port Talbot.

End of an era

Enjoyable Afternoon Tea at the Dragon Hotel this afternoon to thank the High St Shop volunteers for all their hard work in running the Ty Olwen shop over many years. Sadly the shop has closed after 23 years and raised over £500,000. Flowers were presented to Mrs Margaret Bartlett who along with her late husband Mick were responsible for founding the shop and Mrs Rose Pugh who brought her skills in 1994 to set it up and has ‘managed’ it ever since.
