Braving the Shave for Ty Olwen

Alison Jones and her family visited Ty Olwen last week to present a donation of £4,000 raised in memory of her mother. Alison told the Chairman that when she gave birth to her son Alex, who has Downs Syndrome, she found out that her mother, Betty Evans, had been diagnosed with cancer. Betty passed away three months later and spent the end of her life at Ty Olwen where she was cared for so well and the family given so much help. When Alison was asked a few months ago if she would have her head shaved for charity, she immediately said yes as long as it was for Ty Olwen. Alison has worked really hard to raise the money and was overwhelmed by the support and generosity from everyone. Pictured below making the presentation to Chairman Helen Murray and Trustee Delyth Gough are Alison, her son Alex, husband Steve and Maddy.

Bladder Scanner Acquired for Ty Olwen

The Ty Olwen Trust recently purchased a Bladder Scanner for use at the unit. The staff made a request for this piece of equipment as when required for a patient they were relying on the availability of one to borrow from the main hospital. The scanner allows staff to perform a non invasive examination on patients and to avoid unnecessary catheterisation. In only a few weeks it has been used several times and the staff are so grateful to have it on hand.

The Trust has also purchased a new set of privacy screens that are lightweight, easy to move and easy to clean.
