Ford Engine Plant Bridgend

A huge thank you to the workforce at Ford Engine Plant in Bridgend for supporting our work. They recently raised over £7,000, in memory of three of their colleagues by organising a sponsored bike ride and also by donating their pay from the last hour of a day. Trustee Neal Francis visited the plant to receive the donation and the following day to meet the plant manager Wallace Yearwood and receive a further donation of £125 from his discretionary fund. Then the proceeds of a raffle at their recent family fun day raised a further £4,800 for us. Trustees Neal and Joy Francis and their son Bradley were delighted to attend on the day to represent Ty Olwen and meet with Mark Thomas who organised the day whilst Bradley had a great day out visiting all the exhibits. These incredible donations allow us to carry on with purchases to provide the best possible facilities for the comfort of our patients including the recently purchased specialist chairs by the side of each bed.

April’s Thousand Steps

Thank you Lesley for sharing April’s story with us. The staff were thrilled to meet her when she presented a cheque for a whopping £1,050 to Ty Olwen.
When April’s Bampa passed away in February she was keen to know that he didn’t suffer so we told her all about the amazing care he received at Ty Olwen. As a family we were shocked to discover that this wonderful place relies heavily on donations and when April learned of this she immediately wanted to help. She asked if we would sponsor her to walk 10,000 steps a day for the whole of March. When we mentioned this to friends and family they were all keen to sponsor April too. Her school friends also supported and sponsored her. For the 31 days of March April walked at least 10,000 steps every day, even when we travelled back and fore to Cambridge one weekend she got her steps in by running around the hotel and refusing to take taxis for the two miles into town.
We are so proud of April who is thrilled to be have been a little help to such a worthy cause in memory of her beloved Bampa.

Cycle Ride Raises £12,500

A message from Steve Brace about a recent cycle ride which raised £12,500 for Ty Olwen.

We are a group of friends that recently lost a great man to cancer. Martin Hudson was a director at Morgan Hemp accountants and the majority of us met him at a business networking group in Swansea . Martin was an extremely loveable man and well respected in business . His loss has had a big impact on his family and friends. Martin was receiving palliative care at Ty Olwen therefore this is why we have chosen this well deserved charity to raise money for . Martin loved his rugby and was a major supporter and sponsor of Morriston RFC . Another passion was his regular holidays with his family in Tenby. Therefore it was obvious where our route would be , just wished it was closer haha. Martin was in no way a doom and gloom person , he loved life , friends and of course his family . This ride is in memory of such a true friend, it will be a day of enjoyment (once the ride is over) it will be a day to celebrate his life and what he meant to us all.
